Flower spikes in late summer sport 1" lavender tassel-like flowers. Coarser texture than Liatris spicata. Seeds are a real treat for goldfinches. Native plants, they are drought tolerant and attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Deer resistant.
Prefers full sun and average, dry to medium, well-drained soils. Tolerant of poor soils, drought, summer heat and humidity. Avoid wet soils in winter.
Long blooming and will rebloom if cut back. Interesting in that the blooms open from the top down.
