Liatris punctata

Dotted Gayfeather

Light purple spikes of fluffy blooms attract butterflies galore. A short-grass prairie native, it is deep-rooted and long-lived and very drought-tolerant. Grassy leaves are covered with tiny dots of resin, hence the name.

Prefers full sun and average, dry to medium, well-drained soils. Prefers dry, sandy or rocky, alkaline soils. Tolerant of poor soils, drought, summer heat and humidity. Avoid wet soils in winter.
