Very small, 5-petaled, starry, yellow blooms nod on fine stalks in the upper leaf axils in summer. The narrow, lance shaped foliage has a distinct purple to bronze hue. Plants may form small colonies. Native to most of the eastern half of N. America.
Prefers partial to full sun and moist to wet, humus-rich soil. Plants naturally occur in low areas such as bottomland woods, swamps and pond margins. Tolerates rocky, gravelly soil.
